Pizza Babe welcomes to the Freak Network bored beyond belief. Although I thought about asking to be a member before, Master Zilla insisted that the Pizza Babe add my podcast NOW.
Get to know my LA gal-pal Teresa from In Sequence. She recently got over the flu (my brother recently got over pneumonia) and she reminds me that I chronicled my own travails with the flu in bbb #16.
Teresa updates me about my old hometown LA. We’re back to recession levels of dumpster diving in LA. I also have memories of my old apartment there, which faced out onto an alley (as I previously mentioned in bbb #3). Oh, how I don’t miss my former land-lady who never returned my security deposit and is now using it to fix the old, decrepit and damaged balcony.
Traffic density is the worst that Teresa has ever seen in LA. Gas prices are up to $4 a gallon, too. Teresa’s girlfriend and her co-workers are hungrily looking at mass transit maps. Oh, what a joy to use mass transit in LA (like I used to do while living there). Imagine two hour commutes one way…
It’s the beginning of the LA apocalypse. Finally.
The second part of our conversation next time.
And thanks for all of your comments for bbb #22. Don’t be stiff-necked and comment again!

wow Joe,
I thought mother Teresa (aka Saint Teresa) had passed from this world, only to find she has a new ministry outreach to dumpster divers in LA (LA the new Calcutta?). You are so cutting edge, I feel so blessed to have found this place. Your blog name really resonates with me… kindred spirits I guess.

No, Mother Teresa’s spirit is now inhabiting my gal-pal Teresa’s body.
I hate to admit it, but I am cutting edge: you’re so right about that!
So lower case Paul, on what spot of this planet do you live and how did you find this podcast? Glad you like the blog name, too.
Hope you’ll keep finding something to resonate with!
Hey Joe… Guess what? I actually got to listen to this podcast before you did the next one! I enjoyed this one quite a bit and loved hearing Teresa. LA’s traffic getting worse?!?! I do feel for all why have to commute to work there. As for their gas prices, here in upstate NY, we’re getting there. Last weekend I bought gas for $3.65 and today it is up to $3.75 at the same gas station. I’ll look forward to your next podcast, Joe.
Wow, you got to listen to it before I put out another one - congratulations. I have to be honest: I was surprised to see you comment so soon after my putting it out.
It’s hard to believe how bad the traffic is getting in LA. Even in the 8 years I was there, I noticed it getting worse and worse.
Isn’t Teresa great? She’ll be back for at least half of the next one so stayed tuned for that and $4 gas prices at the pump!
Hiya Joe,
I hail from Virginia (Thomas Jefferson is my neighbor, it’s not easy keeping up with the Jefferson’s). I was born in raised in Canoga Park though, so I understand LA speak. I found you over at Peterson’s place.
Hey, you shouldn’t “hate to admit” you’re cutting edge…if you got it, flaunt it.*

Ah, so you’re a southerner? I have a pal from Virginia. Oh, wait, you’re originally from California so you’re a westerner.
Isn’t Peterson great? I always kid him on his site, but he’s really had a great impact on the whole ex-gay stuff. I’m glad he likes me enough to be my friend (I think).
Thanks again for listening and commenting!
I tell everyone in Virginia I was born and raised in the south (I leave out that it was Southern California…don’t ask, don’t tell).
Peterson the Great? yeah, I have a bit of a crush on him…I think anyway. He has this multiple personality thing going on, so I’m not sure.

hey Joe!
I usually listen to your podcasts but never leave a comment - but Teresa is awesome!
I like her almost as much as Jill - your ‘death list’ is hard to beat though he he…
Keep them coming - you made me want to go and watch a hockey game - I guess I would root for the Zambonis, since they bear my family name ^___^
Camilla,
I didn’t know that you listened to my podcast (except for the one time you told me about listening to the Death Watch List).
Hockey games, although very Canadian, are also quintessentially American. If you have a chance (and can afford ir
) then go. But, I think that the fans of Italian soccer are far more rabid! :O
Thanks for listening - grazie mille! Ciao, ciao!
I H A T E soccer! After “Calciopoli” (hah we haven’t talked about it, I will tell you more on Friday) in 2006, I decided that soccer is the dirtiest and most corrupted sport on Earth!
My family roots for Verona’s team (of course), but I refuse to go to the stadium and to spend my Sunday afternoon watching 23 (22 players + the ref) guys in shorts running after a ball looking all tough and then screaming in pain as soon as someone touches them! >_<
I fell in love with football though

I simply adore when a wide receiver is all concentrated on the ball and he doesn’t see the the linebacker coming from behind to tackle him!! I love when you hear the stadium going “ouch…” ha ha!
I guess I have some violence addiction - but it has to be ‘clean’ violence!
I will try Hockey then, I’ve heard it’s even more violent than football!
Detesti calcio?!? Pensavo che tutti italiani lo averssero adorato!
Il calcio americano ha piu’, come sei dice, humilita’ perche’ ecco (here) nessuno lo e’ uno tifoso. Ha!
I find American football boring particularly to watch on TV. There is too much, what I call, stop and starting because of the nature of the game. But, the atmosphere of a football stadium can be a lot of fun. Have you done “the wave” yet?
Yes, try hockey. The game I went to was “bloodless”: some games are not, however. Be prepared!
A presto!
Yea, I have done the “wave” at the Shoe several times and even at Ann Arbor during the Michigan game - that was very brave!
The funny thing is that Michigan colors - maze and blue - are the same as Verona’s soccer team ha ha! SO any Osu fanatic that will come visit me will faint upon entering the town!
We call the “wave” = la ola!
I’ll go to a hockey game - I am a Zamboni, after all!
They didn’t do the wave when I went to the local hockey game. But, they did have “burrito bombs” and lots of coupons so you could go out and buy more things. In fact I think there were more commericials and announcements for products than there was a game!
