Hey, Camilla,

I'm glad that people outside of the U.S. listen to this podcast so that I get comments like yours.

The U.S. did fall into being an "Empire" because of Bush and his neo-conservative cronies. He makes me ill just like Berlusconi makes you ill! I watched a recent Italian newscast and was surprised to see that Berlusconi is once again under scrutiny. Good! If only that would happen with Bush here in the U.S.!

I love what your dad told you about coming to the States, that you, <i>"shouldn’t go hide in the mouth of the one who’s devouring the freedom of others…</i>. Not only picturesque but also insightful! :)

[a guy who considers the US to be semi-benevolently fascist.]

Gotta love that! :D

I never thought of the US as "semi-benevolent" fascists, but that is something that makes me think lots - thanks!

It is true that in Europe there is a widespread malevolent feeling towards the US who think they can "police" the world. Some people even call it the new imperialism Roman style.
My dad once told me I shouldn't go hide in the mouth of the one who's devouring the freedom of others... pretty picturesque.

Italy fell back into a Berlusconian special hell - let's hope his allies decide he's corrupt, should be in jail and frankly he's too short, old and ugly to be our Prime Minister!
I hate to see him on tv - it makes me nauseous.

I can't vote here so I am not following the debate much, but it would be sort of stupid for the Republicans to argue - once they have a god chance, they shoudl just stick together and argue later!

Ah, stopping the war as soon as possible woudl be a good choice too - the public debt of the US is already pretty high (I hope "public debt" exists ha ha)!

So what's your point, Brime Prime? Well?

Hey, the neo-cons were very effective at keeping the left all divided against itself. Will it ever change (or at least in the near future)?

Voting for one's interest makes sense, especially given the messianic powers of the "Free Market" to solve all problems of human existence. It's when people vote based on issues, even for candidates that are inherently against their own self-interests where the problem is.

I read Obama's book, and he wrote about how people had become disenfranchised with the political process in America and about bringing everyone to common ground. I think he's absolutely correct, but by now (especially over the last 8 years) I've become so polarized that I'm no longer interested in common ground; I'm interested in bombing the Red States. I've become a single issue voter focused on what's best for gay families; they are - as you put it - my constituency and I now judge everything in the political arena by its relevance to what's best for my own constituency first. I don't have much experience with the Left (as a Rational Anarcho-Syndicalist I've always found them too conservative for my taste), but I can see that this is probably how that process of identity politics and factionalization that you're talking (okay, ranting) about begins, and I think that the political environment under the recent Bush administrations has only accelerated the process.

Peterson,

I know, I know, I'm very evil for picking on the Quakers. Then again, I always pick on you so...

Joe, you have crossed the line for the last time! After your incendiary anti-liberal Quaker remarks, a committee of liberal Quakers have issued a Fatwa against you. That means that individuals and groups of Quaker will descend upon you and crash in your anti-Quaker gay lifestyle with silent worship. Thanks to you, liberal Quakers are now unified in our Fatwa against you. Peace and Light, Peterson

I'm glad you had a great day for your birthday, Judy! We'll see if the Democrats can pull it together over the next few weeks and months. It will at least be interesting to watch! ;) Love to you and I'm always happy to know that you listen AND comment! :)

First off, thanks for happy b'day. It was a great day. Now, with regard to the implosion of the left, I absolutely have to agree with everything you mentioned. Now that Clinton has stepped out of the race and and is endorsing Obama for the good of the party... yeah right! I think there will be a Rep back in the White House. I can only hope that things will get better.
