bored beyond belief #44 – A disgruntled 50 and a T

May 20, 2009

Listen here [31.20]

Listener discretion advised (no offense)

A Giant-Sized, double-issue bored beyond belief!

Teresa joins me to wish me warm birthday wishes – I have reached the big 5-0. She offers me useless advice about becoming a “senior”

Her menopause is improved now that she’s on birth control pills  (“ping-ping”) and the regrets of never having an abortion.

Teresa fulminates about the word “senior”. Teresa insists that the phrase “mature adult” is an oxymoron.

Joe G. is in his “golden years”.

What’s new with California besides Miss California. Can you say “insolvency“?

I miss trash piling up in the streets – then I blabber & reminisce about the 1960’s/1970’s.  Teresa asks if my teens were the “best years of [my] life”.

Digital TV and re-seeing the wonders of blaxploitation movies! The wonderful Pam Grier!

What was it like growing up in the 1970’s? Remember trash pick-up strikes?

What was the #1 song was on the day of your birth?

What plans might I have for my 50th birthday?

Groaning about my health issues – I’m a senior now, after all. Would you want to be awake for surgery? My health insurance won’t pay for the less invasive procedure.

The young try to be respectful to seniors like me…

Incidental music:
Kansas City – Wilbert Harrison
Do Wah Diddy – Manfred Mann
Oh, Pretty Woman – Roy Orbison (Japanese style)
Ringo - Lorne Greene
Venus – Frankie Avalon
It’s Not Your Birthday Anymore – Morrissey

EXTRA DOUBLE ISSUE BONUS! – the wise words of “Miss California” (thanks to Lisa Nova)

    Joegee,

Great cast. Teresa is great, she’d make a great regular co=host… instead of being your sidekick she could be your front kick.

Being 50. I don’t think you are quite “senior” yet… maybe junior, certainly not sophomore any more. Mostly hitting 5-0 means that you will have to take your Olay regimen seriously and you will now become fair game for 60 year olds in your Chemistry account… otherwise, not much changes.

oh, and try pro-biotics for the IBS… cured mine years ago. :)

    Lcp

    • Joe G. Says:

I agree, lcp, Teresa is a great co-host. I’m just to narcissistic to even consider that.

I guess, I’m not senior, but it’s fun to play one on a podcast. BTW, are you a 50-something? I thought you younger than that. And I’ve been fair game for 60 somethings for a LONG time…:)

Yes, the doc has suggested the pro-biotics and I have indeed added some to the diet.

Thanks for the comments & listening!

I am a 58 year old lesbian living in Sun City, CA. It is a 55+ retirement community. Sorry kid. You have to wait 5 years till you can move here.

Oh yes, I don’t know about other parts of the State but we pay for our own garbage pick up. It runs about 20 dollars a month. I don’t know what would happen if you didn’t pay. I have never seen garage stacking up on someone’s curb. The other State and County services are going from bad to worse. If I could sell my house I’d move. Wish us luck.

    • Joe G. Says:

      Hello, Babbs,

I’m glad you listened and stopped by to comment.

As I wrote above, I know I’m not quite “there” yet, but I’m working on it every day!

Maybe the garbage strikes were something that happened more often in the northeast where I’m originally from. Or maybe it only happened once and it left an indelible mark on my memory…

Good luck with the State & County services. Of course, when we treat government as the eternal enemy than it tends to be even messier than it was before. I know: written like a true LIBERAL.

So glad you listened and commented. Hope you feel like sticking around for awhile!

hey joe ..great blog ..enjoyed listening Teresa about her menapause ..its just the begining for her !!! I dont think you will be getting a seniors dicount anytime soon …Sorry about your eye !! Well lets just hope that this is the slowest year ever ,,seems like it was yesturday we where playing at grandmas!!!

    • Joe G. Says:

Thanks for the birthday and good wishes in general. I like the idea of this next year going slower…it does seem like it was just yesterday that we hung out together when were kids…wow!

  4. Kalvin Says:

I always love Teresa. Why don’t I have a lesbian in my life like her? I’m probably just not rockin’ enough. Look on the bright side though. You’ll probably die before the environmental doomsday happens, so that’s nice, right? Plus! You’re also closer to hanging out with Jesus! Although I doubt he’s as entertaining as Teresa, so maybe that isn’t so good after all.

Oh, and Teresa, I hear you. I regret every day not having had an abortion. But my co-workers keep telling me that’s silly every time I express pity for our very pregnant supervisor.

    • Joe G. Says:

      Dearest, Kalvin,

So long since I’ve heard anything from you. And so glad you listened to the podcast and love the T. Loving the T is very important.

One of the advantages with aging is that one is closer to hanging out with the J so thanks for that reminder.

I’d love to see a face off between the T and the J. That would be most entertaining. I am truly thankful that in this lifetime I have the T and in the next I have the J.

Glad you commented, too – hope to hear a new podcast from you very soon.

      J.
